US elections: Clinton takes double-digit lead over Trump, say polls

As per the latest poll released by PRRI/The Atlantic,Clinton (49 per cent) has a lead of 11 percentage points against Trump (38 per cent).

Washington: Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has taken a double-digit lead over Donald Trump whose popularity appears to have dwindled after surfacing of a video in which the Republican nominee is seen making lewd remarks about woman.

As per the latest poll released by PRRI/The Atlantic,Clinton (49 per cent) has a lead of 11 percentage points against Trump (38 per cent).

A similar poll conducted by them two weeks ago showed that the two presidential candidates were tied at 43 per cent each.

The poll said Clinton, 68, now has a commanding lead.

Part of the poll was conducted after the 2005 video of Trump, 70, was released by The Washington Post in which he is seen making lewd remarks about women.

Trump has since apologised for his remarks and described it as a locker room talk.

In another poll carried by The Wall Street Journal and NBC News, Clinton leads by a similar 11-point margin against Trump.

According to it, Clinton jumped to an 11-point lead over Trump, 46 per cent to 35 per cent, among likely voters on a ballot including third-party candidates, up from six percentage points in September, when the split was 43 per cent to 37 per cent in a four-way contest.

As per RealClearPolitics, which keeps tracks of all major polls, Clinton's lead over Trump has now increased to 6.5 percentage points in the average of major national polls.

Till last week, it was around two percentage points. This jump in Clinton's lead is mainly attributable to Trump's lewd remarks about women.
