Trump confident of bringing cost of US-Mexico wall construction way down'
Washington DC: United States President Donald Trump has assured that the cost of building the 'wall' on the southern border with Mexico will come down when he gets involved with its design and negotiations.
"I am reading that the great border wall will cost more than the government originally thought, but I have not gotten involved in the design or negotiations yet. When I do, just like with the F-35 FighterJet or the Air Force One Program, price will come way down!," Trump said in a series of tweets.
Trump had in January decided that he will seek to pay for the wall by imposing a 20 percent tax on imports from Mexico, as part of a larger comprehensive tax reform plan.
Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto had cancelled a planned meeting with Trump earlier this year after the US President signed an executive order kicking off the process of building the border wall and vowed once again to force Mexico to pay for it.
However, Mexico has adamantly rejected the notion that they would fund the border wall.
