Relationship with India of incredible significance, says US
Washington: Indo-US ties are of "incredible significance" not only to the region but also to the world, an Obama Administration official has said, days ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit.
"We're very much looking forward to Prime Minister Modi's visit. The US-India relationship is of incredible significance, not only to the region but to the world," State Department Deputy Spokesman Mark Toner told reporters in Washington ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit next week.
"The breadth of the US-Indian relationship is wide. It addresses security. It's got a strong economic component. We're looking to build closer relationships across the board with India, because we see it as a vital partner in the region," Mr Toner said.
Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive in Washington on June 6 on a three-day visit.
The prime minister is scheduled to meet US President Barack Obama at the White House on June 7 and address a joint meeting of the US Congress on June 8.
"We have a broad bilateral and multilateral relationship with India and look forward to engaging on all those issues," Mr Toner said.
