Cameroon: A video of a woman cutting open the womb of her recently-deceased relative in an attempt to save her unborn twin babies is going viral on social media. The horrific incident occurred in Cameroon after the deceased woman was denied entry into a hospital. It was then that the relative of the woman was left frustrated and desperate and she cut open the woman’s womb with a razor blade in a desperate bid to save the lives of her unborn twins.
One of the babies was already dead, while the second was alive but died shortly after it was removed from the womb, according to a report in The Daily Mail.
According to The BBC, Monique Koumateke, 31, was nearly full term when she was rushed to hospital after falling ill.
Cell phone footage of the procedure being performed in open air is going viral on the internet and has left viewers shocked and horrified.
According to reports, the woman was declared dead upon arrival by the midwife and staff at the maternity ward and general hospital refused to help, her family claimed.
The cell phone footage from the incident - which was later uploaded online - allegedly let to the arrests of the woman who carried out the procedure, as well as several staff members at the hospital and morgue.
Police say their investigation into the incident is ongoing.
