'Feel like killing my baby, he reminds me of the man who raped me'

Rosine Mengue was raped and impregnated by a Burundian soldier when she was 14-year-old.

Bangui, Central African Republic: In a shocking testimony, a young girl has revealed how she was dragged into a building by a Burundian soldier and brutally raped, leaving her pregnant, according to a report in The Washington Post.

Rosine Mengue was raped and impregnated by a Burundian soldier when she was 14-year-old. Such babies born out of rapes are often termed as 'peacekeeper babies' by the United Nations.

Impregnated against her wish, Mengue deals with her year-old baby uncomfortably. She also revealed that she does not want to keep the baby as he reminds her of her horrific past. 'Sometimes, I feel like killing my baby when I am alone in the house with him. He constantly reminds me of the man who raped me,' says Mengue as she cradles her toddler.

Mengue's testimony comes in the wake of recent scandals of UN peacekeeper employees being accused of molesting young women, especially underage girls in the region.

Although UN chief Ban-Ki-moon termed rape as 'cancer' in the system, the United Nations did not record Mengue's case when she had filed a complaint. Instead, UN recorded it as a 'transactional' case in which sex is often exchanged for money, food or other products.

UN officials, however, claimed that they had recorded Mengue's case and are investigating it. Yet, no progress has been reported in the case.
