Woman Held For Cheating Several Of Her Friends In Crores In Bengaluru

BENGALURU: A woman has been arrested by Basaveshwara police of Bengaluru city on charge of duping several women by way of borrowing huge sums of money from them and never returned them the borrowed money before aggrieved women lodged a police complaint, a couple of days back. It is suspected the accused cheated several women of about Rs 30 crore in all. The accused is identified as Savitha, a resident of Basaveshwara Nagar.
When women who gave money to Savitha wanted her to return their money back, it is alleged Savitha threatened them, before victims registered a police complaint.
The arrested identified as Savitha is alleged to have made several friends while attending kitty parties. She stayed at Basaveshwara Nagar of Bengaluru city for close to 35 years. After making friends, Savitha is alleged to have borrowed money from several women, some of them from affluent families, on the pretext of arranging money towards her daughter's studies in the United States and later for her marriage.
Some others lost money to Savitha after she assured them to double their money by investments and buy gold for them at reasonable rates than in Bengaluru.
A victim identified as Tejaswini said it was Savitha who initiated the friendship with her and borrowed money from her citing that her daughter wished to pursue her studies in the United States and later to her marriage. The victim said Savitha targeted innocent and affluent women and the alleged cheating by Savitha accounted for Rs 30 crore alone in Basaveshwara Nagar.
She told her friends she was a single woman and the victim claimed the bank account details of Savitha revealed Rs 17 crore transactions.
He solemnized a marriage and reportedly spent Rs 10 crore by borrowing money from several people and the money collected by Savitha was exposed after cheated women started to inquire whether they had given money to Savitha. The victim stated “I have audio conversation and video clips of the money borrowed from me.”
Chandu, another victim, stated Savitha came to her contact at a kitty party and stated Savitha took money from her to meet fees for her daughter’s education.
