Elena Rybakina defeated world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to win the Australian Open women’s singles title in Melbourne.
The 26-year-old sealed the victory with an ace, rallying from 3-0 down in the deciding third set.
It was Rybakina’s second Grand Slam title after Wimbledon 2022 and revenge for her loss to Sabalenka in the 2023 final.
Rybakina has now won 20 of her last 21 matches and will rise to No.3 in the WTA rankings.
Kazakhstan’s flag was unfurled on court as she celebrated with her team and coach Stefano Vukov.
