Lego gets its first disabled figure

The figurine a hat-wearing boy in a wheelchair was first unveiled at the Nuremberg international toy fair in Germany.

Popular Danish toymaker, Lego, now has a surprising new addition to its collection – a mini-figure in a wheelchair. The figurine – a hat-wearing boy in a wheelchair – was first unveiled at the Nuremberg international toy fair in Germany and then later featured on fan blogs.

Lego has also confirmed that the tiny wheelchair will be included in the new Lego CITY set that will available in markets in June, reports CNN Money. This is being seen as an encouraging step towards greater representation of disabled people in popular culture and the mainstream media.

Online campaign #ToyLikeMe has been calling on different toy companies to produce figures that represent disabled children – and Lego has finally answered.
