The art of gifting pot
Refreshing, thoughtful and eco-friendly— gifting potted blooms in lieu of ubiquitous bouquets is one of the latest trends to have gotten the seal of approval from namma Bengalureans.
So, are ‘planted’ gifts the latest way to say it? We catch up with ardent followers of the practice to find out... Stressing on how a large number of people are now waking up to the idea of gifting meaningful options, Richa Gutgutia, co-founder of Rooted Difts, tells us, “The days of surprising your loved ones with bouquets are long over. Potted plants are long lasting, low-budget and add a dash of zing to your living space. So, why not choose the latter, which is more meaningful and useful?”.
True to its tagline, the start-up found its inception solely out of Richa’s observation of a growing obsession and ongoing demand for potted plants.
Priya Jain, a 29-year-old entrepreneur implies how the idea of gifting potted plants can actually be a subtle way of giving back to the environment.
“I was recently gifted a Tulsi plant and an Amruthaballi plant by a guest. It was such a thoughtful gesture. A nice potted plant adds value and immediately brightens up your surroundings. It’s an idea that can make a world of difference to our environment and interiors!” she states.
Adding to the same, Nitin Hajelaa, a food blogger and management consultant fondly reminisces when he was gifted these blooming wonders on his last birthday. “It was a pleasant surprise from an acquaintance, which got me to consider it as a very good gifting option. I believe plants are great sources of positive energy. Most importantly, such gifts bring a sense of responsibility towards nature in fast paced city life,” he maintains.
Opining how the age of gifting bouquets almost draws to a close, Sriram Aravamudan, director, My Sunny Balcony, a Bengaluru-based urban gardening venture, emphasises on how plants are excellent gifting options.
“They are meaningful gifts that last long, unlike bouquets and cut plants with a short shelf life. Most firms are in full favour of the trend. In fact, the bulk orders we get are of potted herbs for corporate give-aways,” he pipes.
“What’s better than a gift that grows with time! It’s one of the easiest ways to inculcate the habit of growing more plants and heading toward greener surroundings. But let’s not forget that gifting a plant or being gifted one comes with a responsibility of nurturing it. So let’s get started and move towards a greener space,” Richa says in conclusion. Perhaps, it’s time to turn to a new ‘leaf’!
