Makeovers for every milestone
Most people make drastic changes to their physical appearance like getting a radical haircut or a piercing — but for some people — transformations come from a lot more than just impulse. Makeovers can signify crossing certain milestones and the change that comes with them. With celebrities like Trisha getting a tattoo after the release of her 50th film and VJ Ramya revamping her onscreen persona, more people are sharing stories of the events that led to their transformations.
Archanaa Sekar, who works with an NGO, went through a change early in life and decided to commemorate it. She tells us, “My school was extremely strict about getting second ear piercings done and since I was the prefect in school I would never wear earrings in them. But when the duty of being a prefect was taken away from me, I decided to go ahead and get my third pair of piercings as an act of rebellion.” A chartered accountant, Vishakh R. decided that symbolism was not enough and got milestones tattooed on his arm. “I have been really into biking for a long time and had a childhood dream to get tattooed. The tattoo I got, is of me riding my bike on a road. I got milestones on either side of the road, which I filled in with significant changes in my life. I have left a few milestones blank for all the important events in the future.”
Entrepreneur, educationist and movie producer Sam Paul has been making a statement with his wacky coloured beards and he tells us why. “I’ve been colouring my beard a different hue every time I open a new salon. The first few times, I coloured it blonde and red and even peacock blue. Since then, it’s just become a tradition. Moreover every time I go through a break up, I’m fuelled to hit the gym more often and get into more ventures,” he laughs.
VJ Ramya’s transformation and the following photoshoot have been the talk of the town recently. Moving away from her general traditional look, the photos showed another side of the ever-smiling Ramya.
“After I acted in Mani Ratnam’s OK Kanmani, he told me I did have an actor inside me and I got several offers from others who liked my work. So, before I signed on for any other movies, I took a three-month sabbatical and went to the gym and followed a diet and lost a lot of weight. I’ve been an anchor since I was 21 and for the past six years I have been dressing in sarees. I wanted people to notice a transformation in me and see me differently. Since then, people have told me that I look great and that my skin glows. So definitely, the reactions have been extremely positive and great,” she explains when asked about what milestone led to the alteration in her image.
With makeovers becoming all the rage in recent times, seeing a change in your life and following it up with a new look only makes sense. Fashion blogger Noopur gives her opinion, “I think people get makeovers because they want a change in their lives. Especially when they cross milestones, they want a transformation in their physical appearance to show that they are ready for a change.” Maybe it’s time you cross a milestone makeover off your list too!
