UBL Expands Nizam Brewery with ₹90 Cr Canning Facility

UBL marks entry into Telangana’s fast-growing cans segment, boosting production capacity and catering to rising consumer demand for premium beer formats

United Breweries Limited (UBL), India’s leading brewer and home to iconic brands like Kingfisher and Heineken®, today announced a strategic investment of ₹90 crores to establish a state-of-the-art Canning Line facility at its existing Nizam Brewery in Telangana, one of the two breweries it operates in the state. This significant move will mark UBL’s foray into the rapidly growing canned beer segment in Telangana, one of India’s largest and most dynamic beer markets.

“The new facility is expected to be commissioned within a year and will add 0.4 million hectolitres (mhl) to the brewery’s existing 0.5 mhl capacity, taking the total to 0.9 mhl. It will primarily cater to premium brands, including Kingfisher, Kingfisher Ultra, and Heineken®, packaged in cans, a format increasingly preferred by modern consumers for its convenience, portability, and freshness retention.”

With this investment, UBL is set to make its much-anticipated entry into Telangana’s fast-growing cans segment, an area where the company had no presence until now. This strategic expansion aligns perfectly with shifting consumer preferences and strengthens UBL’s leadership in one of India’s most vibrant beer markets.

The move also comes on the heels of HEINEKENs investment in its GCC operations, reaffirming the company’s commitment to innovation, capacity building, and sustained category growth within India’s dynamic beer industry.

Commenting on the announcement, Vivek Gupta, MD & CEO, United Breweries Limited, said, “Telangana is one of the largest beer markets in India, and consumer demand for cans has been consistently rising. With this investment, we are confident of gaining market share in this high-potential format while delivering the iconic taste of Kingfisher, Ultra, and Heineken® to consumers in a new and exciting way. This expansion underlines our commitment to meeting evolving consumer preferences and driving growth in India’s beer category.”

The investment is being made through internal accruals and has already received all necessary regulatory approvals, including the recent Building Permit Order issued by the Industrial Area Local Authority – Kothlapur on August 25, 2025.
