Telangana to host 2-day Bharat Summit

Delegates from 450 countries will attend the meet

Hyderabad: In a landmark initiative aimed at elevating Telangana's position on the global stage, the state government announced that it would host the Bharat Summit, which will take place on April 25 and 26 at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC). The two-day summit, being organised in collaboration with the Samruddha Bharat Foundation, marks the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference — widely regarded as the cornerstone of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and IT minister D. Sridhar Babu unveiled the logo of the Bharat Summit here on Monday. The event was attended by senior Congress leaders including CWC member Salman Khurshid, AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, CWC permanent invitee Gurdeep Sappal and Indian Overseas Congress Chairperson Sam Pitroda.

Under the central theme of ‘Delivering Global Justice’, the summit seeks to reignite the spirit of justice, equity, and multilateralism in global governance — a vision championed by Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi. The summit is expected to host over 450 international delegates from more than 100 countries, encompassing ministers, parliamentarians, policymakers, corporate leaders, academics, and civil society activists. It will also witness participation from 25 global think tanks and representatives of nearly 100 progressive political parties.

Leaders of national prominence, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge, senior leader Rahul Gandhi, and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi, are slated to attend the summit on both days.

Speaking at the logo launch, Bhatti said the Bharat Summit will bring together some of the brightest minds and voices from across the globe. With over 50 MPs and senators, heads of parties, and sectoral experts, we aim to create a dynamic platform for collaborative global dialogue. We thank external affairs minister S. Jaishankar for extending his support to this initiative.”

Echoing the summit’s broader goals, IT minister Sridhar Babu highlighted its economic and diplomatic relevance. "The Bharat Summit not only honours India’s legacy in advocating peace and justice but also reflects our ambition to position Telangana as a hub for global ideas and investment. Through Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s ‘Telangana Rising’ vision, we will present investment opportunities and showcase our progressive governance," he said.

Indian Overseas Congress chairperson Sam Pitroda stressed the urgency of a global moral revival: “We are witnessing the rollback of democracy and civic freedoms across the world. Bharat Summit can serve as the launchpad for a global progressive movement. Telangana’s commitment to institutionalising this platform is commendable.”

AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan called the summit a moment of introspection: “This is an opportunity to rethink the role of the state — not as a gatekeeper for the privileged, but as a true representative of people’s aspirations. The summit can help reset our social and political compass.”
