Warangal: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has sanctioned Rs 5,257.2 crore for the construction of an underground drainage (UGD) system in the tri-cities of Warangal, Hanamkonda and Kazipet.

The administrative sanction was issued for the project aimed at addressing long-standing drainage and sanitation issues in Greater Warangal.
A delegation of public representatives from the region met the Chief Minister in Hyderabad on Sunday to thank him for approving the project.
The delegation included Warangal MP Dr Kadiyam Kavya, MLAs Naini Rajender Reddy, Kadiyam Srihari, Revuri Prakash Reddy, K.R. Nagaraju and MLC Baswaraju Saraiah.
According to the leaders, the project is expected to address problems caused by open drains and seasonal flooding in the tri-cities. Speaking on the occasion, Warangal West (Hanamkonda) MLA Naini Rajender Reddy said the underground drainage system had been a long-standing demand of residents.
"It is our privilege to fulfil the trust reposed by the people in the Congress government. This project will serve as the backbone of Warangal’s future development," he said.
The Rs 5,257.2 crore Phase-I project will follow a shared funding model, with the Central government and the state government contributing 25 per cent each, amounting to Rs 1,314.30 crore each. The remaining 50 per cent will be mobilised through bank loans or public-private partnerships.
Officials said the project will include construction of an underground drainage network, stormwater management systems and rejuvenation of local tanks and water bodies.
The project is expected to improve urban sanitation and drainage infrastructure in the tri-cities.
