X Unveils Rebuilt Android App, Claims Faster Performance

Nikita Bier, Head of Product at X, announced the completion of the new version of the X Android app, calling it "one of the largest engineering projects in the company's history."

Last year, Elon Musk-owned X announced that it was rebuilding its Android app from the ground up. The new version is now available for download. In August 2025, Bier said the company was assembling an Android "dream team" to reshape the experience.

Announcing the launch, Bier said the Android app had been rebuilt from scratch rather than simply updated. "It's faster, smoother and more reliable. But most of all: it will enable us to build new features at lightning speed," he wrote on X.

The revamped app could help X attract more users worldwide, as Android remains the world's most widely used smartphone operating system.

However, Bier acknowledged that the app still has some "rough edges," including the need to improve performance on older devices and add support for Spaces. He also said that more features, including React with Video, Video Editor, Cashtags and Custom Timelines, will be introduced in future updates.
