WPC Unveils Qi2 25W Wireless Charging; iPhones, Some 'Android' Phones to Get Support

Previously referred to by its version number, Qi2.2, the technology will now be officially known as Qi2 25W

The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) has announced the launch of the faster Qi2 25W wireless charging, which will support iPhones and some “major Android smartphones.”
Previously referred to by its version number, Qi2.2, the technology will now be officially known as Qi2 25W.
The WPC confirmed Qi2 25W support for iPhones but did not specify the models. Reports suggest that the iPhone 16 series may adopt the new 25W standard, as it already supports 25W charging via MagSafe. The upcoming iPhone 17 series is also expected to support the new technology.
The WPC also stated that “major Android smartphones” will join the Qi2 ecosystem for the first time, although specific brands or models have not been disclosed.
“In addition to Apple iPhone, major Android smartphones will join the Qi2 ecosystem for the first time with this launch. Fourteen devices, receivers, and transmitters completed Qi2 25W certification testing in a limited launch last week. Full-scale certification testing is now open to several hundred devices waiting in the queue to be tested,” the WPC explained.
