WhatsApp Testing New AI-Powered Writing Help Feature For iPhone Users.
Meta-owned WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new AI-powered “Writing Help” feature for iPhone users, according to WaBetaInfo.
The feature, already available on Android, appears within WhatsApp’s interface when a user types into the chat input field. In the chat bar, a pen icon replaces the sticker icon, indicating that Writing Help is available. The tool provides clarity and adjusts the tone of a message before it is sent.
The AI assistant generates at least three variations of a message, aligned with one of five tone options: rephrase, professional, funny, supportive, and proofread. Users can choose to keep their original text or replace it with one of the suggestions. Importantly, recipients will not be notified that AI assistance was used.
The Writing Help feature runs on Private Processing systems which also powers other Meta AI tools.
As with the Android version, the Writing Help feature will be disabled by default and must be enabled manually through the settings menu. To access it, iPhone users will need to install the latest version of WhatsApp Beta for iOS via the TestFlight app. The feature is expected to roll out to more users in the coming weeks.
