How to root the Google Pixel, Pixel XL

Google's Pixels can be rooted, but you should know that warranty and future OTA updates will be washed out.

If you are one of the proud owners of Google’s first and high-end handset, the Google Pixel and Pixel XL, you should also know that the two smartphones have finally found an option to be rooted. Chainfire, one of the well-known teams for Android development and rooting of Android smartphones, have come up with a successful rooting method for the Google smartphones. The process is simple but needs a little know-how about flashing the phone with a few files.

The new systemless root method for Pixel phones has been released by Chainfire. It makes the kernel use files in the boot image as the root directory and the kernel usually makes use of files from the system partition directly.

The team finally figured a way to simplify the method by bypassing the kernel’s use of files from the system partition. However, do note that the procedure is not completely working at 100% and some phones are reportedly having issues with root. Also note that rooting will void warranty and will stop all future OTA updates to the phone.
