Samsung can breathe a sigh of relief as the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday lifted restrictions on in-flight use of the Samsung Galaxy Note7, manufactured after September 15, 2016.
The development was confirmed by an official Samsung spokesperson.
In an official statement, Samsung said: “The Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued an advisory to the travelling public and airline companies today, lifting the restrictions on in-flight use of the new Samsung Galaxy Note7, purchased after 15 September, 2016.”
While the aviation regulator has done away with the restriction, there is no confirmation from individual airlines on what they plan to do.
Customers can identify the new Galaxy Note7 with the ‘green battery icon’. Devices displaying this visual icon are safe to charge and use during the flight.
Samsung has not yet sold a single unit of Galaxy Note 7 in India thus far. The company said the ‘green battery icon’ will apply to all Galaxy Note7 units that will be sold to customers in India when it is launched.
A Samsung India Spokesperson said, “We recognize the inconvenience this has caused to customers, flyers and airline authorities, and remain committed towards customer safety.”
