These huge numbers of users who are yet to protect their devices with an update are highly vulnerable the malicious tool called Pegasus, which is known to be highly impossible to detect. The flaw allows the defenceless handset to be completely taken over by an attacker, who can control the device with spying tools. The attacker can control the iPhone’s camera, tap on its microphone, track the user’s movements and also log all messages on the phone.

Security researchers who found this flaw, termed it as Trident as it used three zero-day vulnerabilities that was unknown to Apple. After they disclosed the research to Apple, the Cupertino company issued an urgent update to iOS with version 9.3.5.
