2019 flagship will feature cutting-edge tech you\'ve never seen before

The new Soli radar sensor allows the Pixel 4 to be operated without physically touching the phone.

Google recently confirmed two features that will make their way to the Pixel 4, the upcoming Google flagship. The phone will feature 3D face recognition and will have the rumoured Project Soli sensor. A video released by Google the Pixel 4 showcases the sensor in action. The features right now let you skip songs, snooze alarms and silence incoming calls with the flip of your hand above the device but future updates will bring more innovative uses of the on-board Soli sensor.

The second feature is the 3D face recognition, which was hinted at when Google employees were spotted paying people for capturing their face data. The algorithms used in 3D facial recognition need to be trained and by collecting the facial data of a lot of people, Google finally brings the feature to the upcoming device.

Combined with the Soli sensor, the two IR face unlock sensors will work more efficiently and turn on as you pick up the phone in your hand. Google has also mentioned that the facial data would be stored inside the Pixel 4’s Titan M security chip, which won’t share it, even with other Google services.

Apart from the Soli sensor and the two face unlock cameras the Pixel 4 also features a dot projector, the proximity sensor, an ambient light sensor and a flood illuminator, which brings the total number of sensors on the front of the device to seven.
