iOS 11.3 Battery Master' update rolls out for iPhones, iPads

The iOS 11.3 brings the much-awaited Battery Health and new Animojis for iPhone X.

Apple has finally released the much-awaited iOS 11.3 stable update for all of its supported iOS devices. The 11.3 update brings the Battery Health in beta and a host of minor tweaks here and there. The update is rolling out to all iPhone 5S users and above, all iPads running on iOS 11 and the 6th generation iPod Touch. The update roughly weighs around 600-700MB and is advised to be downloaded only on Wi-Fi networks.

The biggest addition to iOS 11.3 that makes it one of the most important updates after the original iOS 11 release in September 2017 is the Battery Health feature. After the discovery of Apple’s secret performance throttling, the company had promised to give back control of their iPhone’s life to its users. The Battery Health app will allow for users to monitor the condition of their iPhone batteries — whether they are performing at their peak or are in need of a replacement. In case of the latter situation, users will be given the option to either limit the performance of their iPhone to ensure glitch-free performance, or leave their iPhone performing as good they can with the possibilities of random shutdowns. Do note that performance throttling was found on only 1-year old iPhone models, therefore, users of iPhone 6, 6S, 7 and SE will able to toggle the performance throttling. However, the Battery Health feature will available on all iPhone 6 and above models, including the flagship iPhone X.

Since we mentioned the iPhone X, the iOS 11.3 update brings four new Animoji characters — a lion, bear, dragon, and skull. Additionally, ARKit gets a substantial bump, where AR apps can now utilise vertical surfaces such as walls and doors for enhancing mixed reality experience. Apple also says that ARKit can also recognise irregular objects better than before.

When it comes to security, apart from several under-the-hood tweaks and additions, iOS will now show a new privacy icon on top when account verification is required by Apple, i.e. “when an Apple feature asks you to use your personal information.” Apart from that, Business Chat is also rolling out to users, which is pretty similar to WhatsApp Business and is expected to be used by companies to reach out to their users.
