How Galaxy S8 stands out from iPhone 7 Plus
Samsung finally unveiled its most anticipated smartphone, Galaxy S8 at the ‘Unpacked’ event in New York. All rumours and leaks were put to rest when the company unveiled its flagship. The device looks impressive on the brochure and is by far the best design Samsung has produced.
The display of the phone is clearly the best feature with both the 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch versions offering a curved glass panel similar to the now defunct Galaxy Edge line, but with drastically reduced bezels on the top and bottom that put your content front and middle. The company has also used the most powerful Snapdragon 835 processor for powering the phones and make them faster than ever.
Let’s see where the flagship stands when pitted against the iPhone 7 Plus:
Kicking off with the display resolution, the Galaxy S8’s ‘Infinity display’ is huge upgrade. It comes with 2960 x 1440 pixel resolution, while the iPhone 7 Plus display comes with a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. The iPhone 7 Plus has the pressure sensitive touchscreen, a feature missing from Samsung’s flagship.
On the photography front, both Galaxy S8 and iPhone 7 Plus offer top-notch camera sensors. Both phones pack in a 12MP rear camera, the iPhone 7 Plus however incorporates a dual camera setup. The Galaxy S8 houses an 8MP front facing camera whereas the iPhone 7 Plus boasts a 7MP front snapper.
Samsung has unveiled a new generation of biometric security that includes facial recognition, iris scanner and the fingerprint sensor. The iPhone 7 Plus in turn only has the fingerprint sensor in the name of biometric security.
The Galaxy S8 is IP68 water resistant certified, while the iPhone 7 Plus is IP67. Most importantly, while the iPhone 7 Plus is sans the 3.5mm audio jack, the Galaxy S8 manages to retain it.
On paper the Galaxy S8 sure stands a tad higher than iPhone 7 Plus, but we will have wait for Apple to launch its next iPhone which is slated for a September release.
