Blast from the past: The Nokia phone no one knew about

Nokia had wanted to combine a physical keyboard and touch support in the same way BlackBerry managed to do

Nokia was one of the biggest smartphone manufacturers, until a decade ago before Symbian went down and Android came up. The company looked into the Windows platform with Nokia totally committed to it and always looking for ways to expand its product portfolio.

One of the handsets which the firm wanted to launch was the RX-100, a device which ran Windows Phone 8 and which also featured a physical keyboard, just like a BlackBerry device.

Nokia had wanted to combine a physical keyboard and touch support in the same way BlackBerry managed to do earlier this year with the KEYone, trying to offer the best of two worlds to its customers.

Armed with this model, Nokia was basically going after business users and in some manner, was building a model which would compete against the 2012 BlackBerry models with a combination of new hardware and a modern operating system like Windows Phone.

The device was supposed to feature an AMOLED screen, though exact size is not known, and offered 2GB storage, which was supposed to be enough at that point. MicroSD card support was also planned for users who wanted more storage.

Unfortunately, as we all know, the device never made it to the public realm for a reason we do not know yet. But it showed once again that the Windows phone had massive potential but lacked OEM support.
