Microsoft to expand Windows 10 ROM to new smartphones

Microsoft's Windows Mobile OS has a negligible market share in comparison to Google's Android OS, or Apple's iOS.

Mumbai: In a bid to elevate demand for Window 10 OS features among Android smartphone users, Microsoft has planned to bring it’s Windows 10 ROM software to more flagship handsets.

A couple of months earlier, the Redmond-based company released the new software for Xiaomi’s Mi 4. The new proprietary software allows a user to install a fully functional build of Windows 10 Mobile on any Android device.

According to a recent report, Microsoft officials are currently trying to strike a deal with smartphone manufacturers Xiaomi and OnePlus to allow the software on their respective flagships—Mi 5, OnePlus 2, and the upcoming OnePlus 3.

Currently, Microsoft’s Windows Mobile OS has a negligible market share in comparison to Google’s Android OS, or Apple’s iOS. However, collaborating with Android affiliated OEM might help the company increase it’s mobile market share.

Recently, the company also wanted to introduce other proprietary software like Microsoft Office to Android and Apple based devices. The company has even partnered custom Android ROM maker Cyanogen to integrate Microsoft’s apps in their software.

With so much going on, it is certain that the company is looking to boost it’s handset business, even after performing poorly over the past few years.
