OnePlus explains what caused OnePlus 5 emergency call glitch
A week ago Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus admitted that its flagship smartphone OnePlus 5 is facing issues every time a customer tried placing an emergency call to 911 (in both UK and US) or 112 (in Europe), and announced to push a software update to resolve the problem.
The issue on OnePlus 5 was first flagged by a Reddit user named Seattle_Horn while reporting a fire incident to 911. “I had to dial 911 on my OnePlus 5 yesterday (saw a building on fire a few blocks away) and both times I tried my phone rebooted on me,” the OnePlus 5 user said. Later, several customers added that they had experienced the same problem and demanded an explanation for the same.
OnePlus did address the reason behind the reboot issue in its official forum that reads, “The source of this issue was related to a modem memory usage issue that triggered a reboot. This reboot was a random occurrence for some users on VoLTE network where OTDOA protocol was triggered when placing an emergency call.”
The firm also confirmed that they have worked with their partners at Qualcomm to resolve the reported issue globally.
“To clarify, this occurred only on some OnePlus 5 devices, in random instances under the circumstances described above. Starting last Friday, we rolled out a software update that resolved this issue. We took this extremely seriously and want to thank the users who provided device logs for helping us quickly resolve it,” OnePlus added.
The firm had also contacted the Reddit user, to which, he responded: “After talking with OnePlus and sharing my log files which included the issue, the OnePlus Tech team was able to send me a test update and the 911 bug has been fixed.
“The fix they shared with me is only for my phone but they will be using it as a template either for OTA updates or to send the fix to people who are also having the same problem. In short: PROBLEM FIXED!”
The company is asking users to check for an update and install it. Users can find the update availability by going to ‘Setting’ > ‘System Update’.
