2 LCD, 1 OLED iPhone planned for 2018 lineup: Report

Apple will reportedly have one plus-sized OLED iPhone as their most premium smartphone offering.

It’s only been five months since Apple unveiled the iPhone X and yet rumours about their next generation lineup for 2018 have already started going off. We have already heard several rumours about the next generation iPhone SE, or the iPhone SE 2, going for a bigger display in the same fashion as the iPhone X with an LCD display, whereas their primary flagship offerings will stick to OLED panels as of now. However, a new report from Digitimes suggests otherwise.

In an unexpected turn of expectations, Apple is believed to be working on four iPhone models — a 5.7/5.8-inch LCD model, a 6/6.1-inch LCD model, a 6/6.1-inch OLED model and a 6.4/6.5-inch OLED device. However, Apple will be reportedly pushing for the 5.7/5.8-inch LCD model, a 6/6.1-inch LCD model and the 6.4/6.5-inch OLED model as their 2018 lineup. There’s no major reason given to back up this fact but the possible answer for this could be lack of OLED panel’s availability in the market.

If this rumour turns out to be true, then there could be a possibility that the LCD models will mark their conventional offerings, i.e. the successor to the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus (could be called the iPhone 9), whereas the larger 6.5-inch OLED model will be their flagship model with all the bells and whistles that Apple can offer right now. There’s a still a long way to go before these next-generation iPhones are unveiled, which is why you should take these predictions with a pinch of salt.
