At the World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) earlier this month, Apple unveiled iOS 12 for the iPhone and iPad and with it a range of features that are sure to get most people quite excited. Apple announced iOS 12 with emphasis on making daily tasks faster and more responsive. iOS 12 introduces a plethora of new features such as new ways to experience AR, as well as improvements to make communication more fun, Memoji, Group FaceTime and a lot more. iOS 12 also introduced Siri Shortcuts, enabling the Apple AI voice assistant to work with any app, enabling a faster way to get things done. Additionally, iOS 12 is designed to make everyday tasks on iPhone and iPad even faster and more responsive to performance improvements across the system. The camera now launches faster and the keyboard appears faster with typing even more responsive.
Apple has recently released a public beta version of iOS 12 and this allows anyone to simply register and download the OS on your iPhone and iPad for free. If you are an iPhone user, all you need to do is subscribe to the Apple’s Public Beta Program here with your Apple ID. After subscribing the Public Beta Profile gets installed on your iPhone, further, you can see the new iOS 12 first public beta on the software update section in the settings application.
However, before downloading the public beta version, you should be aware that there will be bugs and a lot of them. We have installed iOS 12 on an iPhone 8 and we can say without a doubt that this update is the smoothest public beta that has been released. But, there has been an amount of app crashing and graphical issues have been noticed as apps are yet to be optimised for the OS. While using the handset, we noticed a frequent amount of reboots happening and this was a bit annoying. Battery performance remained the same and no significant amount of drain was noticed.
We tried Group FaceTime but it appears that this feature is not yet available. Also, while trying Siri Shortcuts, it worked but took quite long to register our commands.
Though this is one of the smoothest public betas that has been released, we definitely advise you use caution as you may not get the silky smooth iOS experience that you are probably used to. If you still want to install the beta version, we would recommend you not install it on your primary device.
