iOS 9: 15 features you should know about

Here are some features of the iOS 9 that can really come in handy.

Mumbai: Apple's iPhones and iPads run on the latest iOS 9.3.1 operating system.

The new features and capabilities in the iOS 9 from the previous iOS 8 are primarily refinements rather than anything transformative. Here are some features of the iOS 9 you may have not noticed even after the update:

  • Night shift is the most prominent feature that comes along with the new iOS (9.3) software update. This nifty feature changes the colour temperature of the screen to minimise and balance the amount of blue light emitted in dark environments.

  • If you are an Apple user, you would definitely know about this interesting feature which enables your data pack automatically if the Wi-Fi connection is slow or absent. And I am pretty sure many people have witnessed scenarios where the device would keep on switching to a regular data pack in the presence of a “slow Wi-Fi” connection. While this feature is pretty handy, it does not take a toll on your data pack expenses.

iOS 9

  • One of the handiest features on the phone is the hightened security for Notes and the company just made it far better by adding TouchID or password protection for individual notes.

iOS 9

  • While 3D Touch features are only limited to the lucky lot who use iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, the new iOS 9.3 update also adds a new quick action functionality to a number of new stock apps. You can use 3D Touch quick action functions by long pressing on apps directly from the home screen.

iOS 9

  • iOS 9 gives you the option to swap between apps without using the home button. When you switch from one app to another, you are given an option on the top left of your screen to go back to the previous app.

iOS 9

  • When you plug in your headphones, the iPhone detects them and automatically shows you a shortcut icon for the music app on the lock screen.

iOS 9

  • Selecting multiple media has been made a lot easier with the iOS 9, you can now simply slide your finger through the images you want to select, instead of tapping each one.

iOS 9

  • The spotlight search is now much more advanced. It shows your top four most used apps and contacts as the ‘Siri app suggestions’.

iOS 9

  • In setting if you scroll down to the battery option, you will notice that your iPhone now has a low power mode, which temporarily reduces power consumption until you can fully charge your iPhone.

iOS 9

  • Also, in case you missed it, the settings app also has a search bar now, which makes looking for settings options so much easier.

iOS 9

  • In the camera roll, when you preview an image, much like in iPhoto on the Mac, the others image show lined up at the bottom, so that you don’t have to swipe through every picture, and choose the one you wish to view next from the tiny thumbnails.

iOS 9

  • iOS 9 users can also now hide pictures from Moments, Collections and Years. However, the media would still be visible in Albums.

  • Another great feature in the camera roll of iOS 9 is the two dedicated folders for selfies and screenshots. That would save so much time in looking for the selfies you want to put up on the social media.

iOS 9

  • Apple has upped the security of the iPhone with iOS 9. It now allows users to set 6 digit passcodes, which means almost a million combinations to crack from.

iOS 9

  • The new operating system also comes with a new iCloud Drive app, which will allow users to interact and manage all of their saved files within iCloud inside of the app. The specific setting for turning on the hidden app lies in Settings > iCloud > iCloud Drive. Once users decide to turn on the "Show on Home Screen", the app will show up on their home screen alongside their previously downloaded apps.
