Beware! Apple ID expiration message is a hoax, phishing scam
Mumbai: Recently some Apple users received a message notifying the expiration of their Apple ID. In order to prevent the termination of the Apple ID, the message convinces users to feed in their Apple ID details. If you received any such message, do not fall for the hoax as it is a clear example of a phishing scam.
Anyone else received one of these Apple ID texts? Is it all above board or is it some kind of phishing scam? pic.twitter.com/KUfMZtggUF

A lot of users went through the process, and they can not be blamed as the website that the link led to looked legitimate, with the first and last name of the user showing in details.

Fake messages and email are very common that attempt to retrieve crucial personal details of users, including Apple ID login, credit card details and other personal information.

On its legal disclaimer page, Apple notes, “As a general rule, never send credit card information, account passwords, or extensive personal information in an email unless you verify that the recipient is who they claim to be. Many companies have policies that state they will never solicit such information from customers by email.”
Further, to remedy such phishing scams, Apple suggests its users: “If you receive what you believe to be a phishing email purporting to be from Apple, please send it to reportphishing@apple.com, a monitored email inbox, which does not generate individual email replies.”
Reports suggest that mostly people in UK have been affected by the scam.
