LG may not modularise its next smartphone

South Korean company LG is reportedly planning on ditching its support for modular accessories with their speculated flagship LG G6.

South Korean company LG is reportedly planning on ditching its support for modular accessories with their speculated flagship LG G6 that is expected to be released in 2017.

‘It is heard that LG Electronics has decided not to modularize its next smartphone. Corresponding products such as boards and audio chips are currently being prepared accordingly,’ reported South Korean news agency ET News.

The company first introduced the new modularized structure with its G5 smartphone earlier this year. However, if reports are believed to be true, the company’s upcoming G6 smartphone is expected to have an integral structure just like previous LG smartphones and other products.

‘It probably was not easy for LG Electronics to put up with risks since its smartphone business is already not doing too well,’ the report further quoted a representative from the industry.

LG Electronics is expected to announce its latest G6 in the spring of 2017. Reports suggest the smartphone will come equipped with added functions that were not present in the previous flagships. The company has not confirmed anything as of yet.
