Apple looks at foldable, curved iPhones next

As for now, only one model of the iPhone from Apple is scheduled for an OLED display.

Apple seems to be in plans to follow Samsung’s footsteps with OLED displays ahead. A report from Nikkei claims that Apple aims to build a smartphone that has a pair of foldable iPhones combining together to open into an iPad. However, the only issue here is that Samsung will only supply a limited amount of OLED panels to Apple as they are not able to deliver enough quantities, according to an August 23 report by Nikkei.

As for now, only one model of the iPhone from Apple is scheduled for an OLED display, which could probably see a curved screen or edges. This model is speculated to for the 2017 launch, while 2018 could see more devices with OLED curved display being shipped. However, the Nikkei report this week speculates that Apple will be releasing two foldable iPhones in 2019.

The report mentions that there are more cutting-edge designs scheduled for iPhones in 2018 as soon as LG Display and Japan Display are able to catch up with the new technology and have a larger supply of OLED panels to US. The report also mentions that the iPhone 2018 could see a curved edge display with sans the home button, while the 2019 will have a 4.7-inch smartphone that can be turned into an iPad mini. Another 5.5-inch model is also in the works that can be converted into a full-fledges iPad when unfolded.

As for now, Apple is yet to launch the 2016 iPhone, which market analysts state that there won’t be any major changes apart from the processor and the camera. Analysts and rumours speculate that the 2018 model will have a completely different look and a better feature-set.
