Apple to launch three ‘iPhone 11’ models in September with A13 SoC, more
Just like last year, when Apple launched the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR, the Cupertino-based smartphone giant will be launching three new ‘iPhone 11’ handsets that feature the Apple A13 chipset. This is known internally as Cebu, model T8030.
As per a report by 9to5Mac, those who have had access to the handsets claim that it will come packing the Lightning port and not USB Type-C as was previously rumoured. This rumour stemmed from the fact that Apple would use it after introducing this connector on the iPad last year.
The upcoming ‘iPhone 11’ models are dubbed D42 (iPhone 12,3) which will be a replacement for the iPhone XS; D43 (iPhone 12,5) which will replace the iPhone XS Max and N104 (iPhone 12,1) that will come in place of the iPhone XR. D42 and D43 will feature a 3x OLED Retina Display while the N104 will come with a 2x Liquid Retina Display which is similar to the current iPhone XR. These upcoming models will feature a similar resolution as the previous generation devices.
The 2019 ‘iPhone 11’ will also boast a new Taptic Engine that uses the codename leap haptics and as of now, there is little to no information regarding its capabilities. There is a high chance that it will come with Haptic Touch as the next iPhones will lack the 3D Touch feature found on current OLED iPhones.
Apple has refrained from using 3D Touch on its iPads even though it debuted with the iPhone 6S way back in 2015. With iOS 13, the Haptic Touch feature requires longer presses and is found on all iOS devices such as the iPad and iPod touch. With iOS 13, Apple is implementing a subtle shift without disrupting the familiarity brought in with 3D Touch.
The upcoming OLED iPhones will feature three rear cameras on the rear within a square housing. 9to5Mac claims that it looks extremely similar to the leaked renders that have been circulating the Internet. The added space will be used to fit in a wide-angle image sensor.
The report states, “Besides being used as a creative option for pictures and movies, this wide-angle ‘iPhone 11’ camera will enable a feature called Smart Frame, which captures the area around the framed area in pictures and videos so that the user can adjust the framing or perform automatic perspective and crop corrections in post. The extra information will be retained for a limited period of time and discarded automatically afterwards, for privacy reasons.”
The selfie camera on the iPhone 11 will also be upgraded and will feature slo-mo recording at 120fps.
The upcoming iPhone 11 smartphones will launch in September 2019.
