iPhone 2016 to get additional updates, major overhaul unlikely

The upcoming 2016 iPhone will not encompass major updates as pointed out be several rumours and reports that surfaced earlier.

Amid an unending pool of rumours, the iPhone 2016 is expected to only come with some incremental updates only against the large number of upgrades predicted, reports the Wall Street Journal.

This year is supposedly vital for the Cupertino-based giant as it has failed to attract potential customers this year, resulting in a downslide from their earlier stronghold on the global smartphone market.

Apple has a distinct plan chalked out for update cycles but considering the fact that it has already been two years since the launch of the iPhone 6, the major changes should’ve come this year.

Contrary to reports predicting major changes in the upcoming iPhone in September, Apple has decided to go ahead with the major overhaul next year, which will also mark their tenth anniversary of the iPhone.

The WSJ report also indicated that the big revamp this year will include dropping of the headphone socket, and the lightning port will double up as the audio port. That way the phone can be thinner and water resistant.

Reports that emerged earlier suggested that the upcoming iPhone will have a design similar to the iPhone 6 but there was no word on any other ‘major’ improvements.

While nothing can be said clearly as of now, there are possibilities that this year’s iPhone will accompany some minor performance alterations, along with an improved design. For the major updates, users might have to wait till next year.
