This flagship killer could dethrone the OnePlus 7

This Chinese smartphone giant has launched a new handset with a Super AMOLED display, SD 855 SoC and in-display fingerprint scanner.

OnePlus is preparing to launch their latest handsets, the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro and ahead of it, Meizu, OnePlus’ major rival has just announced their flagship killer, the 16s. The handset comes loaded with the latest in flagship smartphone tech including a large Super AMOLED display, an on-screen fingerprint scanner as well as a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset.

The Meizu 16s boasts some impressive specifications and one of the highlights is the smartphone’s design which is accredited to the use of COF bonding technique with its large radius corners. The 16s comes with a 6.2-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display that sports an in-display fingerprint scanner. The brand has tied up with Samsung to introduce a high-quality display that’s the primary focus is to reduce the harmful effects on the user’s eyes. A report by GSMArena claims that the display is capable of filtering out 33 per cent of blue light which is harmful and also supports ZDC dimming for reduced eye fatigue. Even though the handset doesn’t have a notch, it’s still capable of achieving a high 91.53 per cent screen-to-body ratio. The Meizu 16 s also comes with stereo speakers for an immersive media experience. The front-facing camera is 20MP and comes with HDR+ support as well as a refined portrait mode.

 

The Meizu 16s comes with a dual camera configuration with the primary shooter rated at 48MP with OIS and built by Sony. It supports the Quad Bayer structure and the secondary camera is a wide 20MP sensor with an F/2.6 aperture. Meizu has also fitted some software enhancements in the camera such as Super Night View which is the Night mode of the handset. It is able to merge 8 images into a single file for enhanced photo quality.

The Meizu 16s comes with a Snapdragon 855 SoC and paired with either 6GB or 8GB of DDR4X RAM and the onboard storage featured here is 128GB or 256GB. The battery found here is of 3600mAh and features 24W mCharger which is the brand’s fast charging tech that capable of filling the battery from 0 per cent to 60 per cent in a mere 30 minutes. Due to AI, Meizu claims that you can get up to 6 hours of game time and up to 14 hours of video streaming.

The Meizu 16s also comes with a new Hyper Gaming mode that allows for smoother graphics performance and also consumes lesser power.

The handset will be available in three colour options Carbon Black, Pear White and Phantom Blue. The base model starts at USD 475 (about Rs 33,000) while the top-end handset costs USD 595 (about Rs 41,500).

With Meizu laying down the gauntlet, it's now up to OnePlus to top them.
