Video | Take your iPhone 7 for surfing
23-year-old Pro Surfer, Kai Lenny from Paia, Maui becomes the first one to test the water-resistance of the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus while surfing.
Lenny, who is dubbed the world’s ultimate waterman, is an all-around watersports and Red Bull-sponsored athlete who competes in range of water activities including big wave surfing, stand-up paddle boarding, wind surfing, kite surfing and more.
Through the help of warranty company SquareTrade, Lenny was able to attach the phones and Go Pro to his board. While, he started with the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, which lasted for approximately 4 minutes and 5 minutes respectively; the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, on the other hand fared much better. Both these devices survived 30-minutes surfing in the salty water of the Pacific Ocean. As a result, the iPhone 7 sustained slight audio muffling with little damage or no damage caused to the audio functions of the iPhone 7 Plus.
Although, note that Apple doesn’t cover water damage under the warranty that they offer. Hence, it is best that users avoid using these devices while indulging in water activities.
