Samsung Galaxy S10 to come with facial recognition and in-display fingerprint scanner

The latest rumour about the upcoming Samsung flagship points to the removal of the iris scanner to make way for facial recognition.

Over the past few weeks, there have been a lot of leaks and rumours surrounding Samsung’s upcoming flagship handset the Galaxy Note 9. The last we heard about it was that there was a possibility that it would come loaded with a triple-camera system like the Huawei P20 Pro.

This time around, the rumour mill has churned out some news about Samsung’s S-lineup of handsets. As per a report by GSMArena, it appears that Samsung is going to ditch the iris scanner and the Galaxy Note 9 will be the last handset to support this technology. The report notes that in place of the iris scanner, Samsung will invest in a new 3D facial recognition technology. It is believed that Samsung is in the works with Israeli-based firm, Mantis Vision to develop the tech needed to implement the facial recognition.

Another bit of information that has been spilt is that Samsung, in their upcoming Galaxy S10 and S10 handsets will also use an in-display fingerprint sensor as an alternate biometric security feature. In the recent past, a few handsets have been unveiled with this tech most notably the vivo Nex S and Nex A handsets.

The report ends by stating that there could be a possibility that the fingerprint scanner could also double as a sensor for blood pressure and heart rate monitor.

As of now, these are still in the rumours stage and the Galaxy S10 will launch only by next year, so in the interim, a lot of plans may change or not make the final cut.
