Samsung launches mid-range Galaxy S8
Samsung has launched a new trimmed-down version of last year's flagship Galaxy S8 in China. The latest smartphone comes with features such as Samsung Pay and Bixby, which is the company’s digital assistant.
Now known as the Galaxy S Light Luxury, the device boasts of a 5.8-inch FHD+ Infinity Display in an 18:9 aspect ratio with curved edges. Under the hood, the handset is powered by a Snapdragon 660 chipset aided by 4GB RAM and 64GB onboard storage. It runs on Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box with Samsung's experience UI on the top. It is kept alive by a 3000mAh battery with support for wireless charging.
The camera setup includes a 16MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera. This device has an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance as well as iris scanner and facial recognition. The handset has been launched in two colour variants — Midnight Black and Burgundy Red.
Connectivity options include Bluetooth v5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, NFC, a USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Sensors onboard include Fingerprint sensor, Accelerometer, Barometer, Gyroscope, Geomagnetic Sensor, Iris Sensor, RGB Light Sensor, Barometer, and Proximity sensor.
Samsung Galaxy S Light Luxury carries is a price tag of 3999 Yuan (roughly Rs 42,701). The smartphone is listed on China’s JD.com for purchase. As of now, it is not known whether the device will be available in other markets anytime soon.
