6 million customers to start receiving their JioPhone from this weekend: report

The second phase of pre-orders for the 4G feature phone can also be expected to begin from this weekend.

Millions of Jio customers who have pre-booked the JioPhone device will start receiving their units starting this weekend, according a report by the Economic Times.

Additionally, the second phase of pre-orders for the 4G feature phone can be expected to begin during the same time.

The piece of information comes as a relief to millions of Jio customers who have been waiting for the arrival of their booked handset and those who were looking to purchase the unit after sudden suspension announced by the company in late August.

Reliance Jio kicked off pre-booking procedure for the JioPhone on August 24, at 5.30pm on its website. However, a couple of days later, it suspended taking pre-bookings for the device, leaving many customers disappointed.

The ‘overwhelming response,’ reportedly six million pre-bookings received, caused Reliance Jio to stop taking further pre-orders for the model.

Despite suspending pre-orders for the unit, Jio left the registration window open for customers, which resulted in 10 millions of registrations with retail outlets on record.

Those who are unaware, pre-orders for the JioPhone will be accepted for Rs 500, which will be adjusted against security deposit of Rs 1,500 at the time of delivery.

Jio aims to deliver 100-150 millions phones in the next six months, and may be able to sell around 40 million by the end of the year, according to analysts.
