Samsung postpones Galaxy Fold launch

The Korean tech giant has postponed the launch of the Galaxy Fold that was scheduled in China this week.

Citing news reports and feedback from tech journalists around the world, Samsung has reportedly postponed the launch of the Galaxy Fold that was scheduled for this week. Following reports and complaints from tech journalists with regards to the issues with the Galaxy Fold’s display, Samsung is presently investigating into the matter and has also planned to cancel the launch for now. However, a report from SamMobile states that the company is blaming the event cancellation citing venue issues.

Samsung’s folding luxury smartphone Galaxy Fold was under heavy fire last week when tech journalists, who had been pre-seeded the devices for early reviews, were complaining about the display breaking. The reviewers were seeing issues with the device in less than a day of use.

Samsung had earlier stated that they are personally looking into the issues and also confirmed that the launch date would not be affected. The decision was based on the issues that were not related to the product but were due to user negligence. Users/reviewers that were given the device were seen pulling off the protective layer from the display that caused the damage. The users thought that the plastic coating on the display were temporary screen protectors that come with every new device and went on to remove it, only to find out that the layer was part of the display surface. Removal of this layer was causing the flexible displays to break down. Samsung has also acknowledged that there was no disclaimer mentioned in the user manual that the layer was part of the display itself and was not meant to be removed.

The delay of the launch could be because Samsung wants to introduce the warnings that will instruct users to leave the protective layer in place to avoid damage to the displays.

As for now, the new dates for the Fold launch and venue are not yet revealed.
