Is Samsung planning on bringing the Galaxy Note 7 back?

Samsung reportedly plans on selling refurbished Note 7 smartphones in emerging markets.

South Korean tech-giant Samsung is reportedly planning on selling refurbished Note 7 smartphones in emerging markets.

According to a report published by Apple Insider, which quotes sources of the Korea Economic Daily, Samsung plans on re-using the core components from the re-called Note 7 devices in refurbished units in an attempt to recover the costs incurred due to the device’s battery debacle.

The report further goes on to suggest that Samsung will be replacing the battery in these refurbished devices with a lower capacity version — down from the 3,500mAh to either 3,200mAH or 3,000mAh battery.

“Divisions working on the refurbishment project aim to finish work by May, with the Note 7 going on sale again from June. While it is unlikely the Note 7 will reappear in the United States or Europe, the refurbished units will be mainly sold in emerging markets, including India and Vietnam,” the report read.

A company official told the report that it is possible the Note 7 could be “aggressively” sold through carriers in South Korea at a reduced price before the expected launch of Galaxy Note 8 later this year.
