OnePlus admits emergency call issues on OnePlus 5, rolls out software update

Chinese phonemaker OnePlus has admitted a glitch in its newest flagship smartphone OnePlus 5 that prevented users to place emergency calls.

Chinese phonemaker OnePlus has admitted a glitch in its newest flagship smartphone OnePlus 5 that prevented users to place emergency calls, following users’ complaints from US, UK and Europe.

The issue on OnePlus 5 was first flagged by a Reddit user named Seattle_Horn while reporting a fire incident to 911. “I had to dial 911 on my OnePlus 5 yesterday (saw a building on fire a few blocks away) and both times I tried my phone rebooted on me,” the OnePlus 5 user said.

In response to resolve the issue, OnePlus has confirmed releasing a software update. However, timing of the update “may vary by region”.

The firm had also contacted the Reddit user, to which, he responded: “After talking with OnePlus and sharing my log files which included the issue, the OnePlus Tech team was able to send me a test update and the 911 bug has been fixed.

“The fix they shared with me is only for my phone but they will be using it as a template either for OTA updates or to send the fix to people who are also having the same problem. In short: PROBLEM FIXED!”

The company is asking users to check for an update and install it. Users can find the update availability by going to ‘Setting’ > ‘System Update’.
