Has Samsung accidentally/purposefully confirmed an iPhone SE 2 with a notch?
Samsung’s latest commercial for its flagship Galaxy S9 has gained the attention of the world, unlike anything. The South Korean giant’s playful dig at Apple’s performance throttling on older iPhones has gained its fair share of positive as well as negative comments. Samsung even went on to tease the iPhone X’s notch in one of the shots, depicting an Apple fan with his hair styled after the iPhone X’s notch. However, unlike the previous commercial, which only showcased the man alone, Samsung showed the man with a kid on his lap this time, sporting a similar haircut. Is this one of Samsung’s Easter eggs for Apple’s upcoming product?
If you take a closer look at the commercial, the theme that’s portrayed there is related to Apple’s performance throttling scandal that it was found guilty of last December. The inclusion of the shot depicting the ‘notch hairstyle’ Apple fan with a kid seems out of context here. If we dive in deep, the kid could be representing the smallest member of Apple’s iPhone stable. Now, if we pay attention to all the latest rumours and leaks related to Apple, then the rumoured ‘baby’ iPhone SE 2 with a notch on top of its display is what Samsung might be hinting at.
But why has Samsung done so? After all, they are presently leading the charge against no-notch displays with their Galaxy range of smartphones sporting the Infinity Display. However, do keep in mind that Samsung supplies OLED panels for the iPhone X, with a cutout for the notch. It could be possible that Apple might have gone into a contract with Samsung to supply OLED panels for the baby iPhone. Therefore, it could be possible that Samsung had an intention of hinting the presence of their display on the next cheapest iPhone while poking at Apple for sticking to the notch at the same time.
The iPhone SE 2 is still a mystery amongst tipsters, with several of them coming up with different designs and concepts based on the information from industry insiders. Rumours about Apple embracing the FaceID for its entire 2018 iPhone lineup is high and we could end up seeing the same on the iPhone SE 2/ iPhone SE 2018. We can hope that Apple might take off the curtain from this rumoured iPhone at the WWDC 2018 scheduled to take place on the 4th of June.
