Confirmed: Kirin 980 will power the Huawei Mate 20
A few weeks ago there were rumours surrounding the fact that Huawei would be fitting the Kirin 980 in the upcoming Mate 20. Now, as per a report by Gearburn, the same has been confirmed by way of an official release that was issued to South African media recently.
As per the official release, “The Kirin 980 will power the Mate 20 Series. Rumours say that the Kirin 980 will feature an octa-core CPU comprising four A76 cores and four A55 cores, with the larger cores running as fast as at 2.8GHz.”
The chipset is based on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) 7nm manufacturing process. This new chipset is said to be 20 per cent faster and about 40 per cent more efficient than the current generation Kirin 970 chipset.
Huawei goes on to state, “As to the NPU, murmurs in the market indicate that the Kirin 980 will also feature a new iteration of the AI processor that features improved AI performance.”
As per rumours, Huawei is set to debut the Kirin 980 at the IFA event in Berlin in a few weeks.
The Huawei Mate 20 series of handsets is believed to consist of the Huawei Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro and Mate 20 Lite.
Expect more information to be released closer to the launch date.
