Samsung may use green battery icons to indicate safe Note 7 unit
Samsung recently recalled approximately 2.5 million devices after the discovery of a grave battery flaw that caused some devices to catch fire or explode while charging.
The ‘fire-prone’ battery flaw has caused serious injuries to some users. The South Korean smartphone giant also requested users to stop using the current Note 7 devices and return them as soon as possible.
Amid struggles related to damage and cost control, the company is yet to commence new shipments of safe Galaxy Note 7 devices. However, a new report has indicated that the company is coming up a way to mark newly shipped devices safe.
Previous reports said the safe galaxy Note 7 units would come with an S mark in a white circle on the packaging, indicating that the smartphone part of the replacement batch.
Though the move is ideal, as the company is showing concern toward consumers, it is highly doubtful if users will be willing to use the handset after the issue.
But it isn’t possible for the user to carry the box around with them so the company plans to add a green battery icon in the updated Note 7, as per ZDNet. However, it is still blurry whether the green icon will be visible all the time or only when charging.
Earlier Android Central reported against the Green icon addition; it reported that safe units shipped to the US won’t come with a green battery icon.
As for users who are still using the smartphone, Samsung is releasing a new OTA update for the Galaxy Note 7 to limit its charge limit to 60 per cent and avoid any more explosions.
Another report from Re/code has indicated that the replacements will begin starting September 21.
