Qualcomm announces new dual-camera tech

Global chip manufacturing company Qualcomm has revealed a new dual camera technology for smartphones to mimic the functionalities of the human eye.

According to Slash Gear, the new camera tech Clear Sight uses the company’s Spectra image signal processor within its Snapdragon 820 and 821 mobile processors.

The Clear Sight module entirely mimics how the human eye works, due to its dual camera module, each with its own lens and sensor.

The module uses two types of cameras, both of which have the same focal length and sensor. One has its color filter removed, however, offering better contrast and low-light functioning.

Qualcomm has not yet released details on when Clear Sight will be available. The focal length of both lenses is same along with a similar sensor. The only difference between the lenses is the absence of colour filter in one of them.

This helps the sensor without the colour filter to offer better contrast information and low-light prowess. However, both the lenses only form half the photography equation; the Qualcomm Spectra forms the other part by processing the image.

The Spectra processes the image real-time, producing one high-quality image for the data derived from both processors.

The availability details of the new dual-camera tech module have not been disclosed, but users can expect to see more dual-camera smartphones in future.
