Motorola Razr sales will begin only on May 6: Here's a recap of what you can expect

The phone is enticing even at the price of Rs 1,24,999 because of its looks, usability and handy size

Chennai: To get your hands on the smart flip phone Motorola Razr, you will have to wait some more. Motorola has postponed the start of sale of the Razr flip smartphone to May 6 from April 15, in keeping with the new date for lifting of the coronavirus lockdown, May 4.

The Motorola Razr is a nostalgia-inducing throwback to the design of the 2004 Moto Razr. The phone, which works on a relatively new technology of a flip phone opening up to a full seamless smart touch screen, is enticing even at the price of Rs 1,24,999 because of its looks, usability and handy size. The Motorola Razr comes only in one variant of 6GB RAM and 128GB storage.

By Comparison the Samsung Galaxy Flip Z is priced slightly lower at Rs 1,09,999 for the 8 GB RAM, 256 GB storage variant. But the Motorola Razr trumps the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip in terms of usability.

The closed screen of the Motorola Razr shows you bigger notifications and lets you manage most of them without opening up the phone. It also lets you take decent selfies as its primary camera is on the closed screen, and you can get a pretty good view of yourself on its bigger display while still closed.

You can also control music playback and do a lot of things that you would normally do on a smartphone’s lockscreen.

With the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, you can’t effectively manage notifications as the screen on the closed surface is tiny.

Here’s a recap of the other features of the Motorola Razr

Its main screen when opened has a 6.2-inch flexible OLED HD+ display with a 21:9 aspect ratio

There is a handy 2.7-inch Quick View secondary display that you can use with the phone remaining unopened.

What comes as a bit of a downer is the 2,800 mAh battery, but with a light, slim flip model, there just isn’t enough space to pack more juice in.

For a phone of its size, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset is not a bad one, and keeps things relatively smooth. Although the standard now is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, featured in big performance-oriented phones such as the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro launched a couple of days ago.

The Motorola Razr had an optical fingerprint sensor placed on its chin. Its primary camera is a 16 MP one good for low light photography. The best part about it is that the camera, which is mounted on the closed portion of the phone, lets you take selfies without even having to unfold the device.

When you open up the Motorola Razr, you will also find a 5 MP secondary camera.
