ASUS's Zenfone 5Z could lock horns with the OnePlus 6 in India

The Zenfone 5Z is ASUS' flagship offering, but is positioned against the OnePlus 6 in various markets.

At this year’s MWC, ASUS took to the stage to unveil the Zenfone 5Z — their flagship offering in the smartphone segment for 2018. With a display notch on top and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chip underneath, the smartphone boasted a premium build and was expected to be positioned alongside the flagships from Samsung and Apple. ASUS has now started pushing the 5Z to the shelves and it seems that the OnePlus 6 is about to get some serious competition.

The Zenfone 5Z has broken cover in France and the handset will start at Euro 500 for the base 6GB/64GB variant. The top-end variant with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage has been announced for Euro 600. For comparison, the base variant of OnePlus 6 costs Euro 520 in France.

Similarly, ASUS has also put the Zenfone 5Z up for pre-order in Japan, where the base variant will be up for sale at JPY 75,384 (approximately Rs 46,323).

The Zenfone 5Z is slated to arrive on the Indian market and if the global pricing trends are taken into consideration, then ASUS could be putting up a tough competition to the OnePlus 6 — a smartphone that has no real threat from its competition yet. ASUS has been seen going for competitive pricing in India recently with the Zenfone Max Pro M1 and it could be possible that they do the same for the Zenfone 5Z.

Therefore, if you are in the market for a premium smartphone, it would be sensible to hold your purchase for a few weeks. The Zenfone 5Z packs in the beastly Snapdragon 845 chip coupled with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM. It sports a 6.2-inch IPS LCD display with an aspect ratio of 19:9. It sports a pair of impressive optics as well — a 12MP + 8MP dual camera setup for the rear whereas an 8MP sensor with 3-axis image stabilisation takes care of the front. The 5Z sports a glass-metal build and also sports a fingerprints sensor at the rear.
