Samsung Galaxy S8 will be a flop, claims analyst

Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI was reported as saying that Galaxy S8 will struggle to outsell the pervious model in the range.

Samsung is set to launch its much-awaited Galaxy S8 smartphone at its ‘Galaxy Unpacked’ event scheduled for March 29 in New York. Rumours and leaks about the device have already been flooding the internet.

This year’s launch is especially looked-forward to for many reasons: Firstly, because this is Samsung’s ‘make or break’ handset right after its Galaxy Note 7 fiasco. Secondly because even Apple is planning on integrating many exciting features in this year’s iPhone launch and it will be interesting to see how the two giants compete.

In a time like, leading Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI was reported as saying that Galaxy S8 will struggle to outsell the pervious model in the range. He went on to state that a combination of “(un)attractive selling points” and poor timing will hurt the Galaxy S8’s future prospects. At the same time, he expects this year’s iPhone to be “eye-catching” and “innovative” – specially the device’s OLED screen, wireless charging and a curved glass design that it is rumoured to carry.

He further suggested that the upcoming iPhone will be the first to support 3D image capture from Apple’s AR engineering team. Kuo projects that Galaxy S8 shipments will reach a peak of 45 million units in 2017, which is less in comparison to 52 million Galaxy S7 units that the company managed to ship last year. He believes that the decreased demand for the Galaxy S8 will lower the flagship’s impact on the supply chain.
