Xiaomi becomes unshakeable, cements itself to No. 1 spot in Q2 2018
In what has now become the norm, Xiaomi India has retained the top position in the Indian smartphone market in terms of sales, according to IDC’s quarterly report in Q2 2018. The Chinese giant has beat Samsung, OPPO, Vivo and other fellow rivals by some considerable margin.
According to statistics, Xiaomi India has dominated the market with a share of 29.7 per cent in terms of overall smartphone shipments. Samsung follows close with a share of 23.9 per cent whereas Vivo gets the podium with a share of 12.6 per cent. In terms of online smartphone shipment, Xiaomi leads the pack with a share of 55.6 per cent, which is a massive gain over its next rival Huawei, which closed in at 7.8 per cent. Samsung followed with a share of 7.3 per cent whereas Lenovo bagged a share of 6.6 per cent.
Xiaomi also posted an impressive growth of 107.6 per cent between Q2 2017 to Q2 2018. However, what’s even more impressive was that the top four selling smartphones in India come from Xiaomi’s stables — the Redmi 5A with a share of 9.82 per cent, the Redmi Note 5 Pro with 6.22 per cent, Redmi Note 5 with 5.22 per cent and the Redmi 5 with 4.40 per cent. Vivo’s Y71 closed the top 5 positions at 4.29 per cent. In fact, Xiaomi says that the Redmi 5A continued ranking as the number one selling smartphone after seven months, with more than three million units shipped in the quarter.
The Redmi 5A is the company most affordable handset, gathering high numbers since its launch late last year. The 5A has been primarily made available via offline channels, which has helped it to reach the segment that was left untapped by online sales.
