Over the last few days, there have been a lot of leaks and rumours surrounding Apple’s upcoming flagship smartphone, the iPhone X Plus. Now, the latest leak goes beyond the iPhone X Plus and focuses on Apple’s 2019 range of smartphones.
As per a report by DigiTimes, their sources at analogue IC vendors have informed them that Apple is redesigning its chargers and related interface for its next-generation iPhone and iPad devices. Apple will in all likelihood have its 2019 series of iPhones come with USB Type-C support.
Apple uses USB Type-C in their current line-up of MacBooks and this has encouraged other notebook manufacturers to adopt this feature. Sales of the new Apple MacBooks have been negatively affected due to the general slowdown in the PC market.
If Apple does indeed adopt USB Type-C in their upcoming iPhones, this will enable other smartphone manufacturers to adopt this interface in their products. Sources have informed DigiTimes that the popularity of the Type-C interface still largely depends on the adoption in Apple’s iPhones.
DigiTimes’ sources claimed that speculation had circulated previously in the smartphone market that Apple would adopt Type-C interface in its next-generation iPhone series slated for launch later in 2018. Apple is still in its redesign phase and will not be able to equip the technology in its upcoming iPhones.
